Did you know that a typical British household spends around £641 on takeaway foods per year?

KPMG found that in the UK alone, individuals spend approximately £641 on a takeaway, and a further £1508 per year on food shops. Around £700 of this shop-bought food is then wasted, per year*.

It is typically the younger couples living with each other who are guilty of ordering a cheeky takeaway instead of cooking. This is due to several factors; the influence of lockdown, laziness, and the inability to cook.

To put things in perspective, Our Hisense BSA63222ABUK is currently sitting at £299 with our retailers. If you purchased this oven now, you would be making restaurant quality food, whilst saving £342 for the year from eating out. It’s also worth mentioning that this is a onetime purchase; you won’t be buying a new oven yearly, and even if you did you would still be saving money!

With the cost-of-living crisis in full swing, it is important to be more mindful with our purchases and save money where we can. Of course, it is a nice treat to eat out, but it isn’t viable to do as regularly in the current, economic climate. Equally, you will achieve a much healthier lifestyle by cooking and eating at home.

The pizza mode you can find on our BSA63222ABUK oven, means that there is no longer any need to order a cheeky dominos or pizza hut! Set to pizza mode and the oven will provide you with restaurant style results. Be sure to utilise the 300 degrees maximum temperature, as it provides fast baking times alongside delicious results.

To begin your journey of cooking more and ordering less, we have put together a recipe for you to try at home with your loved ones; this will require little to no extra purchases, so you’ll be saving the pennies whilst spending quality time together.

Ingredients:

600g of plain flour

7g dried yeast

25ml olive oil

50ml warm milk

325ml warm water

Passata / or tomato puree

Any toppings of your choice; this could be chorizo, mushroom, pepper, chicken, cheese, etc. We would recommend fridge diving, and utilising anything that needs to be cooked that day, to reduce food waste!

Method:

For the dough, mix all the flour, yeast, and a pinch of salt together in a bowl, then stir through the olive oil and milk. Gradually add the water; this will then form a soft dough after being mixed through.

Ensure the oven is preheated to its highest setting, ours is 300 degrees. Our ovens preheat to 200 degrees in just 5 minutes, so allow 10 minutes for it to warm completely to the highest setting.

Then, divide the dough into 4 balls and roll each out individually onto a lightly floured worksurface.

If you would prefer to make one large pizza, you can. Luckily the BSA63222ABUK has a 77-litre capacity; therefore, you can fit a large amount of food in at any one time!

Then, spread either the passata or tomato puree over the dough. You can use as much or as little as you desire, depending on how you like your pizzas.

Lay on your toppings and however much cheese you would like! We would recommend using cheddar cheese, as you probably already have this in your refrigerator.

Drizzle a small amount of olive oil over your crusts to ensure they crisp.

Bake these pizzas for around 10/20 minutes, keeping an eye on them throughout. Take out when cooked to your desire, a good way to monitor this is by looking at the crusts and the cheese!

Even bake will ensure that your pizza is cooked evenly throughout and delivers excellent results. So, there’s no need to worry that your pizzas will be burnt on the top and soggy on the bottom.

Serve alongside a salad, chips or simply on its own.

This recipe can easily be made veggie or vegan by swapping out a few ingredients.

This is the perfect way to do date night cheap and sweet; spend some real quality time together without spending too much money, whilst learning a new skill.
